If stories about your achievements are posted on readabout.me, it's because your college or school is using the site to promote and publicize your accomplishments. These stories get posted automatically when your college chooses to publicize things you've accomplished, like making the Dean's List, studying abroad, starring in a drama performance and more.
What's the benefit to me of having these stories on readabout.me?readabout.me stories and profiles make sure that people find the "good stuff" about you when they search online--and they will search. More than 75% of employers require that hiring managers conduct an online search for employees before they're hired. readabout.me ensures that those employers find information that makes them want to hire you. Better yet, because the stories are created by your college, it's clear that they're verified and accurate about the great things you've done.
What do the badges on my profile mean?readabout.me assigns a badge to every type of accomplishment so that your profile can quickly and elegantly display all of the things you've done. The badges themselves are designed by the great Phil Pascuzzo, who designed Twitter's logo and a lot of other beautiful work. Some colleges create their own badges so that you not only get to show off your achievements, but your school colors too.
What if I can't find my accomplishments on readabout.me?First, be sure that your college is using readabout.me--search for your college's name in the upper right hand corner of this page. If your college IS creating stories about other students, then click here to say that you want them to do more! If your college isn't using readabout.me, you should give the provost a call, or use this form to say that you want them to start.
My profile only shows a few accomplishments, but I have done a lot more! How do I get those stories on readabout.me?Every story is created by your college or university, so you'll need to contact them -- usually in the public affairs or communications office. Or you can use this form to describe the achievements you want them to publicize.
Can I add my own accomplishments, or things like summer jobs or leadership positions? Not yet, but that's coming in Fall 2011!
How do I use Facebook Connect on readabout.me?Facebook Connect is how readabout.me verifies your achievements. That means that we know that a story is really about you, so no one else can claim it. Once you are verified, you can upload a photo to your profile or stories, and stories your college publishes in the future will be added to your Facebook wall. To use Facebook Connect to verify your achievements, your college needs to send you an e-mail with a link to a story about your accomplishment. Contact your college using this form if you're not receiving emails from them about your readabout.me achievements.
How can I upload a picture to go with my accomplishments or my profile? What kind of pictures should I add?Once you verify your profile using Facebook Connect, you can upload a photo to any of your accomplishments or to your profile. Accomplishments look great with a picture that matches the story--for example, a picture in your cap and gown to go with a graduation story, or wearing your college's logo when you start as a freshman.
What if my name is spelled wrong or other information is incorrect? The information in stories on readabout.me comes from the information on record with your college. If you have verified your profile using Facebook Connect, you can update your name, hometown and other information. If you haven't verified your profile, you can use this form to send corrected information to your college.
